This is quite handy and besides making your life easier it also provides security to your car by authenticating your entry.
The functioning and benefits of this key remote are discussed below.
Functioning of Key Fob
Previously key fob operated on infrared signal which required a clear line of sight between the car and the key. Since, Infrared signal can be easily copied using a programmable remote control, old key fob is inefficient in providing security to your car. These days the electrical key fobs are built keeping in mind the drawbacks of the previous type key fobs.
* The present day key fob comprises a small chip that generates a rolling code that gets transmitted with the help of a small transmitter fitted inside the fob. The 40-bit code generated is stored in the memory of the chip and is transmitted to the receiver's controller chip fitted in the car, at the press of the button. This code along with the function code commands the car to execute a particular task like starting the engine, locking or unlocking the door or opening the trunk of the car.
* Both the receiver and the transmitter use similar pseudo-random number generator. As soon as your key has transmitted the 40-bit code, it picks a new code using the number generator. The receiver too does the same after it receives the 40-bit code. In this way both the receiver and transmitter are synchronized. The receiver performs the task only when it receives the code.
* The transmission of these codes take place through radio signal. Unlike infrared signal, radio wave is difficult to copy and hence keep your car secured.
Benefits of Key Fob
* With the help of key fob you need not to make any effort to open the door and get inside your car. Just pressing a button on the fob will open the door for you. Similarly you can also close the door of your car using another button built on the fob.
* Not only doors, key fob is also used to open and close the trunk of your car. So if you are returning from shopping and both of your hands are busy with goods, you can just press a button on the key fob to open the trunk. This makes it easier for you to put things in and out of the trunk.
* Presently almost every key fobs come with a remote engine-starting button. With this, you can easily start your car without even getting inside. This feature is quite impressive for people who live in cold climatic regions where one needs to warm up the engine during the winter or heavy snowfall.
* Some key fobs also contain a car locator button, pressing which you can easily find your car by the tweeting sound produced by the transmitter fixed in the car.
* You can also find a car alarm button in the fob, which usually helps you to switch on and turn off the alarm of a car. This helps you to drive out animals from the vicinity of your car without even going near them.
